Instagram without Explore

Instagram without Explore. The most algorithmically charged surface on the whole app. Gone.

Explore is where Instagram decides what you should be looking at next, whether you asked or not. Dull removes it. The Explore tab, the grid that loads when you tap search, and suggested posts are all stripped before the page renders. You still have Feed, Stories, DMs, and the search bar itself. 7-day free trial, then $3.99/mo.

Instagram in Dull with the Explore page removed
Instagram / no Explore
01
Install Dull on iPhone iOS 16+. Regular App Store download. No account, no extension, no configuration profile.
02
Open Instagram through Dull Tap Instagram from Dull's home screen. Log in as normal. Your feed, followers, DMs, and saved posts come along untouched.
03
Explore is already gone The Explore tab in the bottom nav is removed. Tapping the search icon takes you straight to the search bar without the algorithmic grid of thirst traps, ragebait, and viral Reels Instagram normally lines up for you.
Can you still search for users and hashtags without the Explore page?
Yes. The search bar itself still works fully. You can look up users, tags, places, and audio. Dull removes the algorithmic grid that Instagram shoves in front of the search bar — not the search bar itself.
Does Instagram without Explore also mean no Reels?
Reels and Explore are removed together by default because they share most of the same problem — Meta deciding what you look at next. You can see the full list of what gets cut per platform on the Dull homepage.
Why would I want Instagram without Explore in the first place?
Because Explore is where most of the worst of Instagram lives. It's optimized to catch you with stuff you'd never follow on purpose — ragebait, outrage clips, bodies, scams. Remove it and your Instagram experience shrinks to the accounts you chose to follow. Which is what social media was supposed to be.
Does this work on Android or only iPhone?
Only iPhone for now. Dull is an iOS app, iOS 16 or later. No Android build planned in the short term.
Will I still get suggested users and 'posts for you' in my main feed?
Dull's default filter removes the 'Suggested for you' blocks and the suggested-posts section that Instagram wedges into your chronological feed. Only posts from accounts you follow come through.
What if Instagram changes the Explore layout?
Instagram changes something in their DOM roughly every 2-4 weeks. We ship filter updates to keep up. If you ever notice Explore creeping back, email support and we will push a fix.

Instagram has no setting to turn off Explore. Apple Screen Time can cap your total Instagram time but can't touch individual surfaces. Safari content blockers only work in Safari. Dull gets you Instagram without the Explore page — and, if you want, without Reels, without suggested posts, and without the algorithmic feed reordering — by loading Instagram through its own browser and removing those parts at the DOM level.
